What this covers

This policy explains how we handle information when you use Word Burst website and app. We collect information you provide, information generated when you use the service, and information from services you choose to connect.

Information used by this app

Word Burst is a spelling game for all ages. Custom word lists are stored locally on the device/browser, not sent to our server. The game has no account system, advertising SDK or analytics. The Android app runs bundled content without internet permission. Android device backup may include app data according to the device’s backup settings. The web version requires requests to download the game and its assets. The promotional website separately receives ordinary web requests and offers optional analytics; that analytics is not part of the game or Android app.

Technical information and support

When you visit a hosted website, the server and hosting providers receive your IP address, request details, browser information and timestamps. Operational logs may include identifiers and error details. We use this information to deliver responses, investigate failures and prevent abuse. If you contact us, we receive your message and contact details. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.

Why we use information

We use information to provide the features you request, maintain security, answer support requests and meet legal obligations. Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our agreement for requested services, legitimate interests for proportionate security and troubleshooting, legal obligations for required records, and consent for optional browser analytics. You can withdraw analytics consent without losing access to the service.

Providers and sharing

The website loads Google Fonts and, with permission, PostHog EU analytics. The game is described separately above. Hosting and database providers process information needed to run the hosted service. We may also disclose information where legally required, to protect rights and security, or in a business transfer subject to appropriate protections. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.

Storage and retention

The game’s local word lists remain until changed or cleared. The website does not receive those lists. Support correspondence and operational records are kept while needed to resolve enquiries, maintain security or meet legal obligations. Deleting browser storage does not delete records held on the server. Contact us to request deletion; records required by law or to resolve a dispute may need to be retained, and backup copies may remain until rotated out.

International processing

The service and its providers may process information outside your country, including outside the UK or EEA. Data protection rules may differ. Contact us for information about the locations and transfer safeguards applicable to your use of the service.

Your choices and rights

Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or a portable copy of your personal information, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. We may need to verify your identity. You can withdraw consent prospectively at any time. You may complain to your local data protection authority, including the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). Exercising your rights will not result in discriminatory treatment.

Children and learning

The game is for all ages, children included. It collects no personal information and keeps custom words on the device. Do not include identifying or sensitive information in word lists; a parent or guardian should help children choose theirs. The promotional website is for a general audience.

Security and changes

We use access controls and other measures to protect information, but no online service is completely secure. We update this policy when our practices change, publish the new date here and provide additional notice where required.
